Vigan is a city in the province of Ilocos Sur, and is located in the western coastline of the Philippines. Vigan has changed a lot since it has changed from a municipality to a city.

The economy of Vigan has always been robust, as it was established in 1572 alongside the Spanish conquest of the Philippines. Vigan’s economy and history made it important, nonetheless, the municipality had its challenges. The town found it difficult to furnish its basic infrastructure and services because of the limited resources.

Vigan was made a city on the 22nd of January 2001, as decreed by Republic Act 8988 transforming one of the cities of Ilocos Sur. This was a major turning point in the history of the city, bringing with it the potential for tremendous growth and development. Furthermore, Vigan was enabled to perform its own functions in matters of goverment which also served the residents' interests. Vigan’s historic structures, cultural sites, and natural scenery would definitely enjoy the tourists and turned the City into a major boost for the local economy.

To sum it all up, the changes that occurred in the municipality of Vigan until it became a city is remarkable. Vigan has shown its perseverance in the manner that went from being a mere town to a fully fledged city. Vigan has utilized its rich culture and natural resources for growth and development. Moving forward, it is clear that Vigan has a very bright future and will be a legacy that is cherished for hundreds of years to come.
